ANCA VASILIU

Born in Bucharest. Academic studies in the field of art history. Researcher within the framework of the Art History Institute of the Romanian Academy. PhD in philosophy received from the University of Paris Nanterre. Habilitation to supervise PhD Theses, Paris Sorbonne University. Her professional activity is currently that of Research Director within the framework of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, a member of the research-education mixed team at Sorbonne Université (specializing in ancient philosophy).

She has authored eight volumes on topics in the field of ancient philosophy, two volumes on the artistic Byzantine tradition in Romania and a volume of poetry. She has published over one hundred scientific articles in journals and collective volumes in France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Romania, Canada, England, Greece, Brazil. She is the scientific coordinator of several collective volumes. Anca Vasiliu is the director of the international scientific journal Chôra. Revue d’études anciennes et médiévale, published in Romania.

All her works have been written in French, published in Paris and translated into Romanian, Italian, German, English, Brazilian Portuguese.

In 2022 she was awarded the Grand Prize for Philosophy by the French Academy. The National Order of the Legion of Honor, the highest French order of merit – the degree of Chevalier (Knight) – was conferred on her in 2023. Moreover, in the same year, she received two Doctor Honoris Causa distinctions from the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj and, respectively, from the state university in Ioannina (Greece).
